Georgey Giraffe, and the children who share his story, face the need to understand both to whom respect is due, and in what ways respect should be shown. Armed with a sketchy definition of this character trait, Georgey sets out to show respect. His first efforts are fine, but the time comes when he really has to stick out his neck to show respect.
Children following Georgey's example will:
- understand clearly the meaning of respect.
- know to whom they should show respect.
- know how to show respect.
- set respect goals at home and in school
- get excited about the classroom activities and crafts
Preschool children love Georgey, and listen wide-eyed as he sticks out his neck to show respect, while elementary readers readily think of additional times and ways in which Georgey — and they — can show respect.
Try reading a sample page to your children, and you will have to read the rest of the story! But that's all right — you will want to read the rest of it.
